How to apply for DIN?

The article elucidates meaning of DIN along with the procedure for applying DIN.

In order to maintain all the information about the directors and track them whenever required the concept of Director Identification Number was introduced in the year 2006. It is the unique Identification Number allotted to an individual who is appointed as director of a company. Further, the proposed director is required to make an application in form DIR-3 in order to obtain a valid DIN.

 Documents required

1. Address Proof (Driving license, Voter ID card, Utility bills, Passport, Tax receipts, Bank Statement)

2. Identity Proof

• PAN card of the applicant (for Indian nationals)

• Passport of the applicant, if they are foreign nationals and NRI’s.

Process of DIN registration

Step-1- filing of DIR-3 Form

An application in DIR-3 is required to be filed by every person intending to apply for DIN.

Step-2- Attaching supporting Documents

Along with DIR-3 a photograph and the scanned copy of supporting documents like proof of identity, and proof of residence shall be filed. Further, verification by the applicant containing the Name, Father's name, date of birth, present address, declaration and physical signature of the applicant for applying for allotment of Director Identification Number (DIN) shall also be attached.

Step-3-Digital Signature

E-Form DIR-3 filed shall be digitally signed and shall be uploaded on the MCA21 portal.

 Step-4- Payment of Fees

AS soon the DIR-3 has been uploaded the payment for DIR-3 shall be made through various electronic modes (Netbanking / Credit Card / NEFT).However, no Challan payment will be accepted under the procedure of DIN allotment.

In order to upload the form DIR-3 it is essential for the user to get himself/herself registered on the MCA21 Portal to obtain login id, Then he can Login to the MCA21 portal and click on 'E-Form upload' Step-5-Generation of DIN

If the detail filed through Form DIR-3 details are unique then approved DIN shall be generated. However, in case the details have been identified as potential duplicate provisional DIN shall be generated.

Step-6-Processing of DIR-3 Form

If in case it is found that  DIR-3 is a potential duplicate, the MCA DIN cell will examine the e Form DIR-3 and same shall be disposed of within one or two days.

Step-7-DIR-6 Form

In case there is any change in the particulars submitted in form DIR-3 , the applicant can submit e-form DIR-6 online regarding the change along with the supporting document.
